Rescue: What is it all about?

Rescue groups are non-profit organizations run by volunteers, dedicated to placing homeless animals in loving "forever" homes while promoting responsible pet ownership. They are often affiliated with other Rescue groups, and work tirelessly with shelters, Veterinarians, Breeders, and the general public to achieve their goals.  As a general rule, you can find a Rescue for just about any purebred available today, along with numerous Rescue organizations for mixed breeds.  Dogs found in most Rescue groups are usually homeless through no fault of their own.  They are not surrendered or dumped because they are “bad” dogs or defective in any way.  There any number of reasons why dogs end up in a Rescue.

Once they have reached the safety of Rescue, they are usually placed in foster homes wherever possible, and they are then assessed and provided with any needed medical attention. Rescues spend a great deal of time and effort in assessing potential homes. Since each dog is an individual, some with very specific needs, great care is taken to ensure that not only the dog, but the new family will be that "perfect" match that  results in a forever home. To promote responsible pet ownership all rescue dogs are placed either spayed/neutered, or under signed contract to have it done.

If you wish to add a dog to your family, but do not have the time to deal with a puppy, please consider rescuing an older dog.
